With Mother's Day coming up, we sat down with Omesa to chat about her family's business, Moderne Café. Moderne Café is located opposite ALDI and is known for their great coffee and delicious food that is prepared fresh to order.

Q1: Tell us about Moderne Café and when you first opened.

Our family opened their first cafe in 1961 overseas. Not long after, we opened our second cafe and the business has continued throughout the generations.

The Moderne Café was opened in Westfield North Lakes in 2015 and after almost 9 years serving the North Lakes community, we continue to provide locals with fresh pastries, delicious freshly cooked meals and great coffee. As a family business we pride ourselves on great customer service and believe in providing a unique and unforgettable experience to every customer who chooses to visit us.

Q2: Who makes up your team here at Moderne Café?

The owners are Zahra and Ray Meschi along with their daughters Mary and Omesa (myself), their son-in-laws and grandkids. We also have a great team front of house and qualified chefs.

Q3: You have many local and returning customers, what sets Moderne Café apart from other cafés?

We have a family approach to our customers and treat them like family. We serve what we believe to be old fashioned style dining, making menu items from scratch with local produce. All menu items are prepared fresh to order with many meals like our pancakes, corn fritters and pumpkin soup made from scratch by our talented chefs.

Q4: What is your favourite food item from your menu?

The Breakfast Bruschetta is my absolute favourite menu item.

Q5: What brand of coffee do you use and why?

We use Elixir coffee. The coffee beans are locally roasted in Stafford and are another family business who have been around for years. We believe in supporting other family businesses like ours and the coffee beans are high quality with a velvety finish so it ticks all the boxes.
