Lifeline: Move it for Mental Health

This October, during Mental Health Month, Westfield and Lifeline have joined forces to promote the positive benefits that physical health has on mental health, with the campaign Move It For Mental Health. Between 1-31 October, select Westfield centres will be hosting health, fitness and wellness events.

Westfield is also matching every customer donation, dollar for dollar, up to $15,000. That means your support goes twice as far in helping Lifeline answer more calls from Australians in crisis. Donations can be made at the Concierge Desks in-centre or via the Lifeline Move It for Mental Health webpage.

You can find out more through your local centre:

Check out your local centre's website below to find out what activies will be running this October. From rooftop basketball to Walk and Talk sessions with the Westfield Mall Walkers, there's something for everyone.

Regular exercise can have a big impact on your physical and mental health, with benefits including:

• Better sleep
• Improved concentration
• Increased energy levels
• Improved confidence
• Improved mood
• Reduced stress and anxiety

According to the Australian Government’s National Physical Activity Guidelines, all types of exercise can bring benefits and should be supported with a healthy diet and lifestyle.

It’s recommended that adults aged 18 to 64 should aim to be active most days and participate in 2.5 to 5 hours of moderate intensity physical activity, and between 1.25 and 2.5 hours of vigorous physical activity a week. Strength and resistance training was found to have the biggest impact on symptoms of depression, while mind-body exercises like yoga were most effective at reducing anxiety have been shown to help with symptoms of depression.

Every 24 seconds, someone in Australia reaches out to Lifeline for support, by phone, text, or webchat.

Your donation can help ensure no call for help goes unanswered:

  • $39 helps answer a life-saving phone call.
  • $25 supports a text or webchat conversation with someone in crisis.
  • $100 provides a one-hour virtual counselling session with a trained Lifeline professional.

Together, we can make sure that when someone needs to talk, Lifeline is there to listen.

Lifeline is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week for anyone feeling overwhelmed or finding things difficult. You can call Lifeline on 13 11 14, text 0477 13 11 14, or chat online at www.lifeline.org.au.
