Ariana Tapsell's tips to build a spring/summer capsule wardrobe

Ariana Tapsell's tips to build a spring/summer capsule wardrobe

This spring/summer, we’re leaning into ease and polish! The kind of pieces that feel elevated and effortless, and can be layered up or down to last in your wardrobe for seasons to come. To build a spring/summer capsule wardrobe, think relaxed tailoring, luxe fabrics, and timeless silhouettes that still feel fresh for the season. Here are the trends I’ve been seeing at Westfield and investing in for spring/summer 2025!

1. Tailored shorts

I love how polished, yet wearable, tailored shorts feel at this time of year. They instantly elevate a look with their structure, but the length and lighter fabrications give them a relaxed edge. I’ll be wearing mine with tanks, vests and knits for the day, and with a shirt and heels or wedge for night.

2. Loose, low-waisted trousers

Loose, flowy trousers have been a staple in my wardrobe for years, but this season I’m seeing them everywhere particularly low-waisted styles with an elastic waistband. I love them styled simply in a monochromatic way with a fitted tank or vest for an effortless outfit that looks put-together but ultra comfy.

3. Silk satin

Silk and satin are definitely the fabrics of the season. They bring subtle luxury without being over the top. Adding a shirt, tank, cape or shorts to your outfit in silk or satin is such an easy way to elevate your look and take it from day to night.

4. Vests

These aren’t a new trend, but they’re still everywhere. I’ve been noticing a lot of collarless vests this season across all sorts of fabrics, from soft knits to structured tailoring. They’re super timeless and such a great alternative to your usual cotton tees and tanks.

5. Scoop and v-necklines

Necklines matter this season. We’re seeing fewer high or heavy cuts and more scoop and V-necklines. These shapes frame the collarbone beautifully and fit perfectly within the minimalist yet elevated feel of spring/summer 2025.

6. Metal-framed sunglasses

Metal-framed sunglasses are one of my favourite accessories this season. I love how refined they feel - slightly vintage, slightly modern. They’re like jewellery for the face and the perfect finishing touch to make any outfit look more pulled together and cool.

7. Leather thongs

Minimal leather thongs are a spring (and summer) essential. They’re understated but still chic, and incredibly practical. I’m loving styles with a thin sole and square toe or even a heeled version for dressier spring occasions. They truly suit every outfit, but I especially love seeing them peeking out under pants.

Spring/summer 2025 is all about intentional simplicity, pairing relaxed fits with refined fabrics. Whether you’re dressing up or keeping things low-key, these pieces are versatile enough to mix and match and carry you through every part of the season.
