Q1: When did Underwoods Fine Jewellers first open?

Underwoods fine Jewellers have been trading since 1968 and in Queensland since 1996.

Q2: Tell us about Underwoods Fine Jewellers and what makes it unique?

Underwood’s are very unique in that we still make a large proportion of our own designs and custom work. Our expertise on how to do proper repairs that will last has become well known over many decades in our trade. Our workshop experience is paramount. Your precious family pieces are not just about their monitory value, they are a memory of times past as well of experiences and memories of loved ones.

Q3. What is Underwoods Fine Jewellers’ specialty in the world of jewellery?

The moto up on our wall for decades has been “Unique by Design". We actually make custom rings and jewellery. Designing and jewellery repairs represent a huge proportion of our business. We also use a large proportion of Australian gems in our designs too. Designing, quoting and checking if your gems are secure is free!

Q4: What are some of the latest trends you have seen for bridal jewellery?

It's simple “romance themes". Not just cookie cuter mass production designs, be different and choose a theme that is meaningful to you both. It could be nature, the moon and stars or perhaps even the ocean and reefs. You might like a simple engagement ring then add a very specialised wedding band or eternity ring like the below sunflower theme wedding band we created.

Q5: Bespoke engagement and wedding rings are popular. Talk us through the process of working with a customer from ideation to completed work?

Start early, even six months before (designing is free) Come in as a couple! At least in the beginning to do the initial design and finger sizing .

Remember your choice is on show every day so take your time, look at the quality of the ring itself not just the gems, will it stand the test of time or fall apart in a few years. Once we have settled on the design, production will be around 5-6 weeks.

Q6: What are some of the most memorable jewellery pieces you have created?

Custom work is always memorable when we are tasked with creating truly meaningful pieces that are individualised for our customers. On one instance, we created a replica ring that was from a gentleman's favourite comic book. His children surprised him with the ring and brought him into the store to reveal it.
