Katy J Designs

Katy Smeets is an ink artist whose journey began 11 years ago after the birth of her second son. During a time of postnatal anxiety, she discovered the quiet power of inks. What started as a small creative escape quickly became something much deeper — a way to calm her mind, slow her thoughts, and reconnect with herself.

Since then, inks have been at the heart of her practice. Katy is continually drawn to their fluidity, unpredictability, and the way they invite surrender. Her work is inspired by nature — its movement, textures, and organic forms — as she aims to capture that same sense of flow and stillness in each piece.

Alongside creating and selling her artwork, Katy runs workshops where she shares the mindful, restorative qualities of working with inks. She loves watching others switch off from the noise of daily life and immerse themselves in the calming rhythm of paint meeting paper. For Katy, ink is more than a medium — it is a practice in presence.
