Introducing our September Art Story Artist in Residence...

Bailey Dolan

Bailey Dolan is a multidisciplinary artist working across painting, soft sculpture and ceramics. Through vibrant mixed-media compositions, he explores themes of relationships, identity and self-discovery, creating visual worlds that blur memory, nostalgia and fantasy.

Growing up in Broken Hill, New South Wales, his upbringing continues to shape his practice. He draws on Australiana, local folklore and the visual language of regional life, weaving these influences together with Y2K iconography, pop culture, music and symbolic imagery to build a personal mythology. His works are layered with objects, text and motifs that act as emotional landmarks, each one contributing to an ongoing exploration of belonging, love and the formation of identity.

His practice embraces playfulness and sentimentality. Working intuitively with whatever materials are within reach, he creates richly textured paintings, hanging mobiles and ceramic works that celebrate queer joy, femininity and community. He hopes his work invites viewers into spaces of comfort, curiosity and connection, where ordinary symbols become vessels for memory, magic and shared experience.
