Five Minutes With Our 2025 Westfield Hornsby Local Hero: Darren Heath
1st Hornsby Heights Scout Group
Thoughtful. Inclusive. Dedicated.

Sitting down with 2025 Local Hero Darren Heath offered a glimpse into the passion, dedication and heart behind his work in the community. We asked him a few questions about what drives him, what inspires him, and what this recognition means. Here’s what he shared.
1. How would you describe your Local Hero journey in just three words?
Great community opportunity.
2. What's been the most meaningful part of your experience since being named a winner?
The most meaningful part has been the incredible feedback from the community. I’ve had the chance to reconnect with so many former Cub Scouts and hear countless stories from people who’ve been involved with Scouting over the years. Listening to how positively it shaped their lives has been really special.
3. How has the grant helped you grow or continue the work you do for the community?
The grant has allowed us to significantly upgrade our camping and activity equipment — from a new trailer to tents, gas cookers and more. Having quality, modern gear makes a huge difference to what we can offer our young people
4. What would you say to encourage someone to nominate a Local Hero this year?
I’d say go for it. The Westfield Local Hero program is an amazing opportunity not only to raise much‑needed funds for your chosen charity, but also to shine a light on the important work your organisation is doing in the community. The entire Westfield team has been incredibly supportive, and I’m looking forward to continuing our relationship.
