As a dedicated Cub Scout Leader for the 1st Hornsby Heights Scout Group, Darren not only supports the children’s activities but also works behind the scenes. He is described as the person who
is always first to lend a hand, while also being on top of risk paperwork and making sure activities for kids are both adventurous and safe.

MENTORING MEN LTD.

Donald volunteers with Mentoring Men, offering free oneto-one mentoring to help support men’s mental health. Drawing on the anxiety he suffered due to his Naval service,as well as his coaching career and athletic achievements,he brings positive change to at-risk men, their families and communities. At 80 years old, Donald is also committed to developing mature-age men’s fitness and health.

Having twice survived stage 4 cancer, Karen now supports other cancer survivors from the Royal North Shore Hospital,through fundraising, developing survivorship guides,ensuring inclusivity and advocating for creative therapies and holistic healing. Her empathy, born of experience, fuels
her mission to ensure no one faces cancer alone.

For the past five years, Sian Gordon has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to helping homeless young people in our community. As a team leader at The Burdekin Association, Sian manages youth housing across Hornsby and the Northern Beaches.

Lisa Harnum Foundation

Aileen Mountifield is the founder and executive director of the Lisa Harnum Foundation (LHF). She’s committed to supporting women and children facing domestic violence. Since 2014, LHF has offered support services,case management and counselling. Aileen established LHF’s first safe room in 2018, providing secure spaces in shopping centres for women to meet caseworkers.

Children’s Tumour Foundation

Lisa Rowling, a former paediatric nurse with over 30 years of experience, now serves as the national support services coordinator at the Children’s Tumour Foundation (CTF). Her efforts ensure that the 13,000 Australians living with neurofibromatosis (NF) have access to essential resources and education.

National Centre for Childhood Grief

Empathetic Scott Andrews helps children and their families grieve healthily after the death of a loved one.Scott is a Bereavement Counsellor at the Hornsby-based National Centre for Childhood Grief, a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to caring for children following the death of a
parent, sibling or another loved one.

Hornsby Connect

Jo Grant works tirelessly to provide people with dignity, food and connection. As the volunteer manager of Bill’s Café at Hornsby Connect, she does her best to create a comfortable place for clients to socialise and connect with volunteers, counsellors and each other after collecting a food hamper or when just dropping in.

PCYC Hornsby

Senior Constable Lisa Brown has spent more than 10 years building strong and trusting relationships with young people in Hornsby and Ku-ring-gai. As a Youth Engagement Officer for the NSW Police, she is a mentor and role model for more than 100 young people a year, encouraging them to make the most of their life.
