Presenting your 2021 Westfield Local Heroes

We are excited to announce your three 2021 successful Westfield Local Heroes for Garden City.

Each of the affiliated organisations of the successful heroes will be awarded a $10,000 grant to support their work to thrive. Westfield will award 126 grants across Australia and New Zealand – totalling $1.26 million.

Your three Westfield Garden City Local Heroes are:

Andrew (Andy) Gourley

Red Frogs Australia
Genuine. Hardworking. Humble

Skateboarding accountant Andrew (Andy) Gourley is the founder of Red Frogs and works with his 2,000 volunteers to safeguard hundreds of thousands of young Australians a year. Andy’s journey of giving started at Mount Gravatt when he noticed a few skateboarders getting up to no good. He started a skateboarding youth club to keep them out of trouble and after five years had five clubs looking after 120 young people around Brisbane.

Narelle Wyvill-Anstey

The Lions Club of Brisbane MacGregor
Inspirational. Caring. Willing

Narelle Wyvill-Anstey is an inspirational volunteer with The Lions Club of Brisbane MacGregor. She relishes being able to provide hands-on help through a program she runs that distributes donations to families in distress, the homeless, youths and the elderly. Over the past year, the program has helped over 4000 people.

Rita Prasad-Ildes

World Wellness Group
Brave. Selfless. Compassionate

Rita Prasad-Ildes took a leap of faith when she and two colleagues raised funds to start the World Wellness Group Ten years later, they have cared for more than 8,000 marginalised patients. They also offer a food pantry and tackle patients’ underlying issues such as racism and domestic violence.

Lynda Muller from The Shed Community Fitness Inc.
Lynda Muller’s unwavering dedication helped The Shed Community Fitness get up and running last year. As a result, the non-profit is now a flourishing exercise space and a drawcard for people of all ages and abilities. Thanks to The Shed, people in Lynda’s community are working out more often and making new friends.

Olivia Hodge from Hillsong CityCare
Olivia Hodge helps young people overcome barriers like social isolation and mental health issues, so they can step confidently into their future. The Hillsong CityCare community development worker oversees a program in which mentors support at-risk young people in Brisbane to pursue their dreams and make a difference in their communities.

Portia Lee from Loganlea State High School
Teacher Portia Lee has captured the imagination of students and colleagues with her innovative football academy at Loganlea State High School. Her Upper 90 program harnesses the students’ passion for soccer to improve engagement with the school and community.
