Loretta Zemitis: Westfield Local Heroes 2018
You can rely on Loretta to step in when the chips are down
The $10,000 Westfield Local Heroes grant will enable The Flinders Park Football Club to install an electronic scoreboard on the outside of the ground prior to the 2019 football season commencing in April.
The scoreboard will give the club the opportunity to recognise people and organisations that support the club and will reduce the number of volunteers required on match day to operate the current scoreboard.
Winning this grant recognised a volunteer in Loretta, but it has also been a real community event to get behind Loretta, with nomination process, voting process and the celebrations for the club. It really was a unifying process for the club.
If you look for Loretta Zemitis on almost any evening you will find her doing volunteer work at Flinders Park Football Club. That’s where she has spent four nights a week for the past 10 years: working behind the bar, managing event bookings and working on functions with the social committee.
“The best part for me is you’re doing something that allows kids to play a sport and that they are not roaming the streets doing things they shouldn’t be doing,” says Loretta.
