Westfield is proud to award a community grant of $20K to help Bronny and The Adelaide Jaguars to continue to grow their impact in the local community.

The 2023 Westfield Local Heroes program will award 126 grants across Australia and New Zealand – totalling $1.26 million to support local communities.

Bronny Brooks

The Adelaide Jaguars Womens Soccer Club

Funny. Lovely. Selfless.

Bronny Brooks volunteers long hours to create a friendly and inclusive environment for women and girls to experience the joy of football.

Bronny is the Chairperson of the Adelaide Jaguars WFC, where she ensures players can experience the physical, mental and social benefits of playing sport.

Under her leadership, the club has grown from 70 to over 250 members in just 3 seasons. There are more than 16 teams catering for Miniroo, Junior, Performance and Community players.

Bronny is sensitive to players’ individual needs. For example, the community teams offer flexibility for women to balance study, work and family demands with club commitments.

Much of Bronny’s work involves organising volunteers, applying for grants and developing strategies to advocate for gender equality. One of her passions is finding ways to reduce the dropout rate of teenage girls in sport. She is also driving a Female Athlete Program to educate coaches about best practice methodologies to minimise injury risk while enhancing performance.

Bronny feels a little overwhelmed to be nominated as a Westfield Local Hero. “Much of the work I do is behind the scenes. I am one among many volunteers who work hard to make The Jags such a special community,” she says.

Adelaide Jaguars WFC will use its funds to run education programs for women coaches, sports administrators and other volunteers, in addition to purchasing much needed equipment for the club.

Callum MacPherson from Young Blood Men’s Mental Health

Callum MacPherson has responded to the grief of his friend’s death from severe depression by launching the Young Blood Men's Mental Health video podcast. He has professionally produced over 130 episodes on a volunteer basis, uplifting guests who encourage men to feel connected and understand that their mental health struggles are nothing to be ashamed of.

Dinah Thomasset from Villagehood Australia

Dinah Thomasset is the founder and CEO of Villagehood Australia, where she works tirelessly to bring mothers together for programs that improve their mental health and wellbeing. Dinah has created a peer-support community where experienced mums guide new mothers and experts are available to help instil a sense of confidence.
