Meet our Westfield Local Hero finalists

Jeremy Grassie

Big Group Hug

Dedicated. Humble. Uplifting.

Now in his 80s, Jeremy Grassie has contributed more than 4,000 volunteer hours to Big Group Hug over the past eight years. Twice a week, he dismantles donated prams and portacots for recycling, helping provide safe, essential items to vulnerable children while reducing waste and supporting families in need.

If Jeremy is successful, the grant will fund the storage, preparation and distribution of donated items, so no child has to miss out on the essentials.

Michael Ritchie

Watsonia Scout Group

Steadfast. Visionary. Collaborative.

Motivated by the impact Scouting had on his own family, Michael Ritchie took on a leadership role to help secure the future of Watsonia Scout Group. Today, he is building an inclusive community for all abilities where young people feel they belong, gain confidence and develop skills for life.

If Michael is successful, the grant will transform Watsonia Scout Hall into a more inclusive and accessible space, with a hearing loop, upgraded audio-visual equipment and low-sensory lighting.

Terry Walsh

Spectrum 3

Compassionate. Present. Inclusive.

Terry Walsh has dedicated himself to creating a vital community space for neurodiverse children, families and older people. As CEO and co-founder of Spectrum 3 INC., he leads inclusive programs that build confidence, social connections and life skills, ensuring people of all ages feel supported, valued and connected.

If Terry is successful, the grant will fund two high-efficiency air conditioners at the community hub, keeping the space safe and comfortable year-round, enhancing participant well-being and engagement.
