Han Sheng Chiu
Brisbane South Basketball League
Resilient. Inclusive. Selfless.
Through more than 15 years of volunteer leadership, Han Sheng Chiu has helped transform Brisbane South Basketball League from a small outdoor competition into a thriving multicultural community hub. Today, it supports hundreds of players each season while remaining accessible to people experiencing financial hardship.
If Han is successful, the grant will reinstate a women's league, expand player development programs, and restart free basketball sessions for children and juniors.
Patrick Tyro-Burns
Paper Cranes Children's Foundation
Altruistic. Compassionate. Motivated.
Patrick Tyro-Burns founded the Paper Cranes Children's Foundation, to support families caring for children with complex health needs, such as profound physical disabilities, life threatening and life-limiting conditions. Drawing on more than 30 years as a social worker, Patrick volunteers his time to build practical support and vital facility for seriously ill children living in the community.
If Patrick is successful, the grant will fund the final accessibility upgrades at Wattle Cottage, a new specialist respite and wellness centre, making it fully accessible and inclusive.
Yasmin Khan
The Bangle Foundation
Honest. Reliable. Determined.
Yasmin Khan is helping women of South Asian heritage experiencing domestic and family abuse find safety, support and a path forward. For almost 15 years, she has led The Bangle Foundation, providing culturally safe advocacy, short-term accommodation and connections to vital services that help women rebuild their lives with confidence.
If Yasmin is successful, the grant will maintain The Bangle Foundation's supported accommodation, covering rent, utilities and household essentials for women rebuilding their lives after leaving unsafe situations.
