Voting has now closed for Westfield Local Heroes

We congratulate all of our finalists and recognise the important contribution they make to the local community.

This year Westfield will award 126 grants across Australia and New Zealand totalling $1.25M. Now in its 7th year, the Westfield Local Heroes program will have contributed $8.6M to more than 860 successful Local Hero organisations since it began.

Voting has now closed and the Westfield Local Heroes will be announced 15 October.

Meet our Local Hero finalists

Jan Bynon

Got Your Back Sista

Generous. Giving. Supportive.

Jan Bynon helps women rebuild their lives. As one of Got Your Back Sista’s longest-serving volunteers, Jan supports women and children who have escaped domestic violence. She volunteers in the op shop, helps with fundraising events and provides essentials to those in need. Her efforts have benefited hundreds of people.

If Jan is successful in the community vote, the grant will provide equipment and facilitation for five of their programs, which include work readiness, financial goal-setting and emotional healing.

Moira Farley

Red Nose Hunter Region

Authentic. Trustworthy. Honourable.

Moira Farley has dedicated her career to supporting individuals and families experiencing grief. As a bereavement counsellor for Red Nose, Moira provides vital support when a baby or child dies. Her intuitive approach ensures the best care possible, helping families build resilience and learn to grieve in a safe environment.

If Moira is successful in the community vote, the money will go towards establishing the Hunter Memorial Garden – a much-needed community space for bereaved parents and families and anyone affected by the loss of a baby or child.

Ruth Mitchell

PCYC Newcastle

Tireless. Dedicated. Selfless.

Ruth Mitchell has dedicated nearly 50 years to supporting family and youth resilience through her volunteer work at PCYC Newcastle. Her commitment has positively impacted at-risk youth, helping them avoid antisocial behaviour and the justice system. Over her career, hundreds of young people have benefitted from programs such as homework support and camps.

If Ruth is successful in the community vote, the grant will be spent on additional programs, experiences and growth opportunities for vulnerable young people in the community.
