Gregory Jewellers: Caring for your jewellery
Gregory Jewellers, Located on Level 2

Your Gregory pieces are made to be treasured for a lifetime and beyond. With the right care, they’ll remain as beautiful and brilliant as the day you received them. Whether it’s your engagement ring, a cherished pearl necklace, or a bold gemstone statement, here’s our guide to keeping your jewellery at its very best.
Everyday Care
To preserve the life and beauty of your jewellery, we recommend:
Storing pieces in a clean, dry space, ideally in their original Gregory packaging
- Removing jewellery before physical activities, such as housework, gardening, exercise or contact sport
- Avoiding contact with harsh chemicals, cosmetics and perfumes
- Insuring your jewellery for peace of mind
- Having pieces professionally cleaned and checked regularly
We’re pleased to offer complimentary ultrasonic cleaning and inspections for all Gregory Jewellery at any of our boutiques.
Diamonds
As the hardest natural mineral, diamonds are remarkably durable yet not indestructible. Sharp knocks, particularly to the edges, can cause chipping or fractures.
To protect your diamonds:
- Avoid wearing them during manual work, exercise, or activities involving heavy objects
- Keep them free from oils and lotions, which can dull their sparkle
- Have settings checked regularly to ensure stones remain secure
All Gregory diamonds are ethically sourced from legitimate site holders, never involved in conflict funding.
Gemstones
Coloured gemstones bring vibrant beauty but are generally softer than diamonds and require extra care.
- Avoid prolonged exposure to direct sunlight or sudden temperature changes
- Keep away from chemicals such as bleach, chlorine, perfumes and hairspray
- Wear after applying cosmetics
- Have gemstone pieces cleaned professionally, as some stones are sensitive to standard cleaning methods
Certain gemstones such as emerald, tanzanite, opal and topaz are more fragile and should be worn with extra care.
Pearls
Pearls are organic treasures, delicately formed in nature, and require gentle handling.
- Keep them dry, moisture can damage the nacre layers
- Have strands restrung every 1–2 years, depending on wear
- Store away from direct sunlight or sealed plastic bags to avoid dehydration or discolouration
- Wear after applying perfume or cosmetics, and clean with a soft, slightly damp cloth after each wear
Never immerse pearls in water or clean them ultrasonically.
Gold
Pure gold (24kt) is naturally resistant to rust and tarnish but is too soft for everyday wear. It’s alloyed with other metals for strength—commonly 18kt or 9kt in Australia.
- White gold is created by combining gold with light-coloured metals; at Gregory, we use a high palladium content for a premium white finish
- To maintain lustre, avoid bleach and harsh cleaning products
- Have white gold re-plated periodically to restore brightness
Silver
Sterling silver (92.5% pure silver) is beautiful yet prone to tarnish over time. At Gregory, all Leyla Rose and Mr Gregory silver jewellery is finished with premium rhodium plating for added protection.
To keep silver shining:
- Store in its original packaging, away from air and moisture
- Remove before swimming, showering or sleeping
- Clean with a soft cloth at the first sign of tarnish
- For a deeper clean, use warm soapy water, a polishing cloth, or visit us for professional ultrasonic cleaning
Cubic zirconia set in silver should be cleaned gently with a soft brush and warm soapy water every few months.
Chains, Bracelets, Rings, Earrings & Pendants
- Check clasps, settings and links every 6–12 months for signs of wear
- Avoid wearing fine chains or bracelets during physical activities to prevent catching or breakage
- Keep earrings and pendants free from hairspray, perfume and makeup
- Wear rings with care. Knocks can loosen stones or distort settings
With regular care, your jewellery will remain a cherished part of your story for generations to come.
