When will the implementation of the automated access parking occur?
No date has been set for implementation of access controls in the car park. Further planning and consultation is required; furthermore, significant works will need to occur to allow the changes to take place, and groups that have an interest in the automated access parking will be advised when further information is available. We do not expect these changes will be made to the car park in 2012.

Will there be a free parking period?
The application that has been approved provides for a minimum of 2 hours free parking, which means almost 90% of genuine customers will not have to pay for parking. This free period will continue to be reviewed in line with all feedback received from groups that have an interest in the automated access parking, both before and after implementation.

We understand there is lots of debate regarding the 2 hour free period being not long enough, and we are very focused on consulting with all groups that have an interest in the automated access parking on the length of the grace period. We are committed to ensuring that the right decision is made in the long term to ensure that the overwhelming majority of customers will not be required to pay for parking.

What changes will be made to parking at Westfield Marion and the Domain Site?
The proposed changes will involve the implementation of a Traffic Management Plan which allows for shared car park arrangements during specified events. These changes will allow for the overflow car parking requirements of the State Aquatic and Leisure Centre (SAALC) onto the Westfield car park. The proposed changes will allow for this arrangement to be automated via an Access Control System. These changes will include the installation of automated structures and minor amendments to the parking layout.

What are the benefits to SAALC/GP Plus and Westfield Marion customers?
These changes will reduce car park congestion, meaning more visitors can access the parks more easily, and create a better overall experience for genuine shoppers. A state of the art parking guidance system will be installed that will assist in directing visitors to the nearest available spaces. Improvements will be made to car park entries and exits and more effective directional signage will be installed to assist in navigating customers' way around the car park. This will all help reduce congestion in the car park making it safer for pedestrians and vehicles, and providing for a more convenient and satisfactory experience for customers.

Will the Council still fine parkers for staying longer than specified times?
No, however, the council will continue to patrol disabled parking bays, no parking and no standing zones and may issue fines.

Will these changes impact customers with a disability?
Authorised disabled access parking permit holders will be able to park free of charge and the guidance system aims to make it easier for disabled customers to find a car park.

Will retail staff be permitted to park?
The approval of the application means that all staff employed across the precinct will still be permitted to park at Marion and will only be charged a nominal daily flat fee, which is still to be determined.
