Remembrance Day

Remembrance Day is one of the most important days on our commemorative calendar. It's a day when we acknowledge those who died while serving in wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations, held on 11 November each year.

What's happening this Remembrance Day at Westfield

The Last Post
At 11AM on 11 November, the Last Post will be played at Westfield Tea Tree Plaza.

The symbols of Remembrance Day

The red poppy and rosemary: Red poppies, one of the first flowers to bloom in the French and Belgian battlefields after World War I, are often correlated with Remembrance Day, but over time have become an increasingly popular symbol of Anzac Day also. Rosemary also serves as symbol for this day as the scented herb is believed to strengthen memory, and therefore remembrance. It is a reminder to actively honour fallen comrades.

The Last Post: The Last Post is played on the bugle, an instrument that holds deep symbolic meaning, particularly in military and memorial services. Traditionally, it was used to signal the end of a day's duties for soldiers, marking the final roll call at sunset. In the context of remembrance ceremonies, such as those on Remembrance Day or Anzac Day, the Last Post symbolises a final farewell to the fallen soldiers, and an invitation to pause and reflect on their sacrifices.
