Our environmental impact targets and progress

We are committed to reducing our environmental impact and leaving a positive legacy for our communities. We are proud to share the progress we’ve made so far.

Since 2014 we have achieved a 41% reduction in scope 1 and 2 emissions across our portfolio of 42 Westfield destinations in Australia and New Zealand.

We plan to achieve net zero by:

  • reducing the amount of energy we use
  • generating renewable energy by having solar panels onsite
  • buying renewable energy

During the year, we entered into a long-term energy agreement in NSW and Victoria. Our New Zealand Westfield destinations are already fully supported by renewable energy, and we will source electricity from 100% renewable sources for our Queensland Westfield destinations from 2025. Together these agreements will assist us achieve net zero by 2030.

We have a target to recycle or reuse 90% of the waste created in Westfield destinations by 2030.

In 2023, we recovered 51% of waste from our operations. This includes recycling cardboard, organic waste and soft plastics.
