At Scentre Group, we want to create a positive legacy. As the owner and operator of 42 Westfield destinations, we are committed to reducing our environmental impact and creating a positive legacy for our communities.

We are continually striving to meet our targets to reduce our environmental impact and are proud to share the progress we’ve made so far against these targets in 2022.

We have a target to achieve net zero Scope 1 and 2 carbon emissions for the Westfield destinations we 100% own by 2030.

In the nine years since Scentre Group was established, we have reduced our emissions by 38%.

We are on track to achieve 50% emissions reduction by 2025. We plan to achieve net zero by:

• reducing the amount of energy we use
• generating electricity by having solar panels onsite
• buying renewable energy – our New Zealand Westfield destinations already use 100% renewable electricity, and our Queensland Westfield destinations will use renewable electricity from 2025.

We are also working to increase the amount of waste from our Westfield operations that we divert from landfill to 90% by 2030.

In 2022, we recovered 52% of waste from our operations. This includes cardboard collected for recycling, collecting and diverting organic waste, and recycling soft plastics.

In 2022, we continued construction at Westfield Knox, 101 Castlereagh Street in Sydney, Westfield Penrith and Westfield Parramatta. We achieved an average of 89% waste recovery across these major development projects.
