NOMINATE

16 February - 15 March

Community members nominate their Westfield Local Heroes by filling in Section 1 of an online Nomination Form. In the form, nominators are asked 3 questions about their nominee and how their work benefits the community. The online form is accessible via a Nominate Now button on this webpage from February 16 to 15 March.

SUBMIT

16 February – 22 March

Once the nominator completes Section 1 of the online Nomination Form, the nominee will receive an email with a personalised link to the online form. The nominee then must complete Section 2 and submit it online by March 22 to be eligible in the program.

VOTE

10 August – 30 August

Nominations are assessed by our selection panels against a set criteria to create a shortlist of 6 finalists per Westfield Centre. We receive nominations from across Australia and New Zealand, so between April and July we are busy reviewing and discovering the hundreds of local heroes in our communities. We thank you for your patience as we undertake this important task.

Between 10 and 30 August we showcase up to 6 finalists per centre on our Westfield websites, social media and in our centres so community members can learn about them and cast their vote for their preferred hero.

CELEBRATE

12 October – 24 October

The 3 successful Westfield Local Heroes per centre with the highest number of community votes are announced and their affiliated organisations are awarded a $10,000 grant each.

FOR NOMINATORS - Tips for nominating

We receive over hundreds of nominations every year. Our hero stories stand out from the crowd by simply capturing the essence of an individual who is making a positive impact to their local community or environment.

Here are some tips to help you on your way to submitting a outstanding nomination.

Why are you nominating?

Describe why this person is a Westfield Local Hero. Ask yourself: How does this person make a positive impact to the community or environment? What are the activities or actions that make the nominee stand out to you? What qualities do they have that makes them a positive role model? What have they accomplished that goes above and and beyond the norm? Have they overcome challenges, hardship or adversity to succeed? What motivated you to nominate this person? Why do they inspire others?

P.S. You can nominate as many heroes as you like.

Use real examples

We are looking for quality not quantity. Writing about real life examples that demonstrate why your nominee is a local hero is more informative for us than providing detailed job descriptions. Try to paint a picture of your nominee by sharing their story and examples of how they have positively impacted another person's life or the environment, and try to keep your sentences short and concise, and avoid repetition.

Who will see my nominations?

Your nominee will be sent the nomination you submit. The nomination will also be seen by our selection panel – made up of team members from across our business and occasionally local community or retail partners.

Selection criteria

Our selection panels are looking for individuals who are positive role models and of good character standing. Use your own words to describe your nominee so we get to know them through your eyes. They must be affiliated with a registered organisation and the grant must be spent in a way that benefits the local community or environment of a Westfield centre.

FOR NOMINEES - Tips for finalising your submission if you have been nominated

Our selection panel want to get to know you and to learn what motivates you to give your time selflessly for the benefit of your community or environment. When completing your nomination don’t be afraid to showcase your achievements and share any challenges you may have faced.

Your work

Outline how your work positively impacts your local community or environment. Ask yourself: Who benefits from my work? How do they benefit? What motivates me to do the work I do? How did I get involved?

Avoid jargon

You know your work better than anybody. Share a memorable achievement or impact in your own words that demonstrates your work instead of providing a job description. Think about how the nomination makes you feel and describe any challenges or barriers that you have faced to succeed. Try not to repeat information you have already provided; use your answers to share as much information as possible about you, your passion, your work and the people or environments you impact.
