Presenting your 2021 Westfield Local Heroes

We are excited to announce your three 2021 successful Westfield Local Heroes for Liverpool.

Each of the affiliated organisations of the successful heroes will be awarded a $10,000 grant to support their work to thrive. Westfield will award 126 grants across Australia and New Zealand – totalling $1.26 million.

Your three Westfield Liverpool Local Heroes are:

Matthew Peet

The Street University Liverpool
Selfless. Dedicated. Talented

Matthew Peet has harnessed the power of art to help at-risk youth turn their back on anti-social behaviours and find purpose in life through his work with The Street University Liverpool. The non-profit runs art, music and dance workshops that give disengaged youth a positive way to express themselves and identify future study or work opportunities.

Sharon

South West Community Transport
Caring. Capable. Genuine

Sharon is helping seniors realise they are never too old to keep fit, have fun and make new friends through her work with non-profit South West Community Transport. She has 54 eager participants in exercise classes, with one managing to ditch her walking stick and go shopping independently. Sharon’s social outings on public transport are also a drawcard.

Stacy Jane

Escabags - Escape Bags
Strong. Inspiring. Kind

Stacy Jane understands how difficult it is to escape domestic violence and founded her charity, Escabags to provide victims of domestic and family abuse with free Escape Bags to avoid re-entering the family home at its most dangerous time. The ‘Escape Bags’ contain all the essential items that a victim of abuse may need when initially escaping an abusive or dangerous situation, within the first 48-72 hours.

Annamaria Wood from Disability Macarthur

Innovative Anamaria Wood has spent the last 25 years meeting the unmet needs of people in the community living with a disability as CEO of Disability Macarthur. The non-profit organisation improves the lives of over 500 families, offering overnight respite care for children and adults.

Brigitte Maibon from Learning Links

Birgitte Maibom helps more than 4,000 children a year access the support they need to reach their potential. The non-profit Learning Links provides literacy and numeracy support to children with learning difficulties or a disability to prevent them from falling behind at school.

Kylie Pussell from Miracle Babies

Kylie Pussell comforts thousands of families of premature or ill babies by reaching out to them in their time of need. Kylie co-founded the non-profit Miracle Babies Foundation in 2005. The charity supports 1200 families a year at the Liverpool Hospital NICU and special care nursery and is available at 23 partner hospitals.
