Ronald McDonald House Charities

For 11 years, Patti has brought comfort to families at John Hunter Children’s Hospital as the welcoming face of the Ronald McDonald Family Rooms. From preparing meals to providing emotional support or making the rooms clean and comfortable, she provides care for people visiting sick children or staying at the hospital.

With 20 years of experience, Mandy supports, and is trusted by, children facing trauma. She believes in holistic, early intervention to help them thrive emotionally and academically when experiencing adversity in the family such as addiction, domestic violence and mental illness.
Mandy’s commitment aids many families across Newcastle.

Got Your Back Sista

Jan Bynon helps women become independent, rebuild their lives and thrive. As one of Got Your Back Sista’s (GYBS) longest-serving volunteers, Jan supports women and children who have escaped domestic violence. She volunteers in the charity’s Op Shop, helps with fundraising events, and provides essential items to those in need.

Red Nose Hunter Region

Moira Farley has dedicated her career to supporting individuals and families experiencing grief. As a bereavement counsellor for Red Nose, Moira provides vital support when a baby or child dies. Her intuitive approach ensures the best care possible, helping families build resilience and learn to grieve in a safe environment.

PCYC Newcastle

Ruth Mitchell has dedicated nearly 50 years to supporting family and youth resilience through her volunteer work at PCYC Newcastle. Her commitment has positively impacted at-risk youth, helping them avoid antisocial behaviour and the justice system. Over her career, hundreds of young people have benefitted from programs such as homework support and camps.

Grainery Care Inc

Marnie Robertson works enthusiastically to provide food to hungry people across the Hunter
Valley. Marnie volunteers at Grainery Care, a charity that supports people in distress without judgment about their background. Marnie is a domestic violence survivor who has risen from her challenges to become one of the most effective and committed volunteers at Grainery Care.

Survivor's R Us Incorporated

Ann-Maria Martin is a beacon of light and support for many local people who need relief from domestic violence, homelessness or unemployment. Maria is the founder and leader of Survivor’s
R Us, a non-profit enterprise whose services include free psychosocial counselling, The Pantry discount store, an op-shop and free meals.

Hunter Melanoma Foundation

Claudia Tolhurst is the local driving force behind preventing melanoma, catching it early and supporting those stricken by it. As the Executive Officer of the Hunter Melanoma Foundation,
Claudia is on a mission to save lives with free popup Spot Checks and by teaching children and adults to be sun safe.
