WHO WE ARE

The Northern NSW Federation of Justices of the Peace Inc. (NNSWFJPS or ‘Federation’) was established in January1948. The ‘Federation’ is a professional association for Justices of the Peace in the northern NSW region. It is a non-sectarian, non-political, not-for-profit incorporated organisation and is the second largest JP association in NSW.

The founding member of the ‘Federation’ was Mr. Charles K Thomspon, who was the sub editor of the evening newspaper ‘The Newcastle Sun’, which subsequently became the Newcastle Herald. The ‘Federation’ has eight Zones, encompassing18 local Council areas in the northern NSW region. Meetings are held regularly, either monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly from February until November.

WHAT WE DO

The objectives of the ‘Federation’ are to

  • Uphold and defend the interests, status and rights of members and maintain dignity of the Commission of Justice of the Peace;
  • Promote, improve, extend, elevate and deal with the education and general knowledge of members in every possible manner;
  • Act for members in any matter whatsoever connected with their office as a Justice of the Peace;
  • Promote the social enjoyment of members.

The main aim of the ‘Federation’ is to educate Justices of the Peace, to enable them to become more proficient in their duties when providing JP services to the community, as well as to assist JP members when needed, especially those in remote locations.
