Your 2025 Westfield Doncaster Local Hero is:
Daniel Mar
3rd Doncaster East Scout Group
Hardworking. Humble. Loyal

As a Scout leader in Doncaster East, Daniel is intent on equipping young people with life skills as well as building their confidence and giving them experiences that last a lifetime. “I’m passionate about teaching skills they don’t always get in school, like leadership, resilience, and teamwork,” says Daniel.
With 10 years as a leader behind him, Daniel is still keen to do and learn more. He is motivated by giving back to the community and by having the chance to help nurture the next generation.
“I want to make the outdoors fun and exciting, helping kids develop a love for nature, adventure, and the challenges it presents,” he adds.
“Seeing them grow into capable, responsible individuals is incredibly rewarding.”
Daniel’s work has included encouraging Scouts to take part in fundraisers, cooking a meal for 80 people in need at a homeless shelter, and organising the Scout group’s aluminium can recycling system. Daniel always ensures that everyone is treated equally.
“Becoming a leader in Scouting is fulfilling a personal goal of ensuring that the kids I work with have the chance to experience the adventures, life skills, and sense of belonging that I missed out on. I’m proud to provide them with opportunities that can shape their futures,” he says.
The $20,000 grant will be used to replace and update its camping gear, including barbeques, the gazebo roof and tents.
We’d like to thank and acknowledge our finalists who will receive a $5K grant for the organisation they represent...
