School Holidays Are the Perfect Time to Prioritise Your Child's Smile

The school holidays are a welcome break for families, but they're also the perfect opportunity to tick important health appointments off the to-do list – including your child's dental check-up.
With fewer school commitments and more flexibility in the family calendar, now is an ideal time to focus on your child's oral health and help set them up for a healthy smile for the months ahead.

At nib Dental Care, we understand that positive dental experiences from an early age can help children develop healthy habits that last a lifetime. Our friendly dental practitioners are committed to providing gentle, supportive care to help children feel comfortable and confident during their visit.

Building Healthy Habits for Growing Smiles

Good oral health starts with simple daily routines.
Encouraging children to brush their teeth twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, floss regularly, drink plenty of water and maintain a balanced diet can help reduce the risk of tooth decay and support healthy gums.

It's also important to limit sugary snacks, soft drinks and fruit juices where possible, as frequent exposure to sugar can increase the likelihood of cavities developing.

Regular dental check-ups play an equally important role. Routine visits allow dental practitioners to monitor your child's oral development, identify potential concerns early and provide personalised advice to help keep their smile healthy.

More Than Just Check-Ups and Cleans

Many parents are surprised to learn that children's dental care extends beyond routine examinations.
At nib Dental Care, we offer a range of services to support growing smiles, including:

  • Custom-fitted sports mouthguards
  • Orthodontic assessments
  • Braces
  • Invisalign® consultations for suitable teenagers
  • Preventive dental treatments
  • Fillings and restorative care
  • Emergency dental appointments

With many children participating in winter and summer sports, school holidays are also a great time to organise a professionally fitted mouthguard. A custom-made mouthguard can help protect teeth and reduce the risk of dental injuries during training and games.

Eligible Children May Be Covered by the Child Dental Benefits Schedule

Many families may not realise that eligible children can access up to $1,150 in free dental services through the Australian Government's Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS).
The CDBS covers a range of dental treatments, including examinations, x-rays, cleans, fissure sealants, fillings, root canal treatments and extractions.

If you're unsure whether your child qualifies, our team can help answer your questions and guide you through the process.

New Patients Welcome

Whether your child is due for a routine check-up, needs a custom sports mouthguard, or you're exploring braces or Invisalign treatment options, nib Dental Care is here to help.

We are always welcoming new patients and encourage families to check with their private health fund to understand what dental services may be covered under their extras policy. nib members may also enjoy additional benefits at nib Dental Care centres.

This school holiday season, take the opportunity to invest in your child's oral health and book an appointment with nib Dental Care. A healthy smile today can help build confidence for years to come.
