On 27 June, Westfield was announced as an official partner of the Australian Olympic and Paralympic Teams.

The world’s most highly anticipated sporting event officially begins this week, following the opening ceremony for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games on Friday night. Having competed and won medals in every Olympic Games since the modern Summer Games first began in 1896, Australia boasts an impressive sporting history and a total tally of 557 medals - and counting! This year, we’ve got 460 Aussie athletes set to compete across 32 sports, making for an exhilarating fortnight ahead.

Swimming

With over two-thirds of Australia’s Olympic medals — and 71 of the country’s 167 Olympic Golds — coming from swimming, the country’s best Olympic sport is definitely one to watch. Kicking off with the Women’s 100m Butterfly, 400m Freestyle, 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay and Men’s 100m Breaststroke, 400m Freestyle, 4 x 100m Freestyle Relay heats on 27th July at 7pm AEST, swimming events run all the way till 5 August, concluding with the Women’s 50m Freestyle, Men’s 1500m Freestyle, Men’s 4 x 100m Medley Relay and Women’s 4 x 100m Medley Relay finals from 2:30am AEST onwards.

Athletics

Australia’s second-best performing sport in Olympic history, it’s no surprise that the country is sending a strong team of genuine medal contenders to compete across a series of track and field events. Beginning with the Men’s 20km Race Walk on 1st August at 3:30pm AEST and the Women’s 20km Race Walk at 5:20pm AEST, make sure to also keep an eye on the Women’s High Jump Qualification on 2nd August at 6:15pm AEST and Women’s Javelin Throw Qualification on 7th August at 6:25pm and 7:50pm AEST.

Skateboarding

With a line-up that includes reigning Olympic champion Keegan Palmer, as well as some of our youngest athletes, 14-year-olds Arisa Trew and Chloe Covell, the second iteration of Skateboarding at the Summer Games might just bring in the gold. The Men’s Street Prelims commences on 27th July at 8pm AEST, with the Women’s Street Prelims following on 28th July at 8pm AEST.

Surfing

Having won three World Surf League titles this year and fielding a team that features athletes who are ranked in the top five on the World Surf League rankings, Australia is headed to the Games in top form and guarantees an exciting watch. Catch the Men’s Round 1 on 28th July at 3am AEST and Women’s Round 1 at 7:48am AEST.
