42nd Street, 35 years at Westfield Tea Tree Plaza
It was 1985 when Peter Rogers first opened 42nd Street at Westfield Tea Tree Plaza. 35 years on and 42nd Street is still an extremely popular lunch destination.
After 25 years Peter sold the Café to Lucy Li and her family, the current owners. Lucy and her family have run 42nd Street for the past 10 years. Lucy’s favourite thing about working at Westfield Tea Tree Plaza is the customers she gets to meet. You won’t miss seeing Lucy’s friendly face in the café, often finding her getting to know her loyal customers.
Lucy studied hospitality in the UK before moving to China and working in hospitality and customer service. While Lucy enjoyed her job, she had a strong desire to explore more of the world. She made the decision to pack up once again and journey over to Australia. It was here in South Australia that Lucy met Peter and the rest as they say is history! Lucy knew 42nd Street was the perfect new adventure for her the minute she laid eyes on the café.
Lucy loves developing and growing her dedicated team of staff. Nothing makes her happier than seeing her young team enjoy coming to work.
Just like in 1985, 42nd Street café still offers homemade cakes and scones made from scratch, using family recipes inherited from Peter. These are still a huge hit with their long-standing customers, especially with some whipped cream and strawberry jam.
Recently 42nd Street has launched two brand new menus: a Clean Eating Menu and a Low Carb Menu. Colour is a key feature of the new menu. The beautifully presented Nutty Cacao Smoothie Bowl looks like an artwork with splashes of colour from edible flowers among the stripes of fresh fruit, chia seeds and crunchy cacao nibs. And the fact that it’s both gluten free and vegan points to one of the other features of the new menu, which caters to a range of dietary requirements.
Next time you’re visiting Westfield Tea Tree Plaza, pop in, grab a cuppa and say hello to Lucy and the team!
