Gucci, Level 3

The Gucci bag collection for pre-fall 2020-21 sees the House develop many of its existing iconic models, and introduces new styles and materials. In particular, Gucci Creative Director Alessandro Michele explores new ways of conferring on each and every style its own distinctive, individual character by making use of Gucci’s design codes and motifs.

The GG Marmont 2.0

Gucci’s most popular handbag line, and for pre-fall it has been reimagined through the use of beautiful pastel colours that have a fresh appeal. The iconic GG detail characterises the style, and here it is rendered in a shiny silver finish.

All the best-selling shapes have been made-over: three sizes of the shoulder-flap bag, two sizes of the camera case and two sizes of the top-handle bag. The colour palette of mono-colour baby pink, light blue, pastel yellow and water green features on a wide selection of styles, but there is also a multicolour version that blends them all together, which comes only in the small flap bag, the small camera case and the mini top-handle bag.

Shiny exotic skins also form part of the pastel recoloration of the GG Marmont 2.0, offering a distinctly refined touch. Both crocodile and python are available in a variety of styles in all the colours: baby pink, light blue, pastel yellow and water green. Finally, the GG Marmont 2.0 has also been reinterpreted in a timeless white leather with blue trim featuring the GG torchon shiny gold hardware. A new model is also introduced this season: a squared camera case with a bamboo handle.

A new tote has been developed in quilted leather, featuring the classic GG hardware with a detachable leather strap and a structured construction. This makes it ideal as both a go-to work bag and a relaxed fashion statement. It comes in two colours: classic black and timeless white. The combination of handles and adjustable shoulder strap means that it can be both hand-carried or comfortably worn over the shoulder.

The Gucci 1955 Horsebit

The Gucci 1955 Horsebit has been recoloured for the season. The GG canvas used for the bags has a fresh white leather trim and is offered on three sizes of tote, two sizes of the dome bag and the shoulder-flap bag.

For the bucket bag there are two different variations, both in GG canvas but one with a white leather trim and another with a brown leather trim.

The leather version of the Gucci 1955 Horsebit has also been revamped and now comes in a classic white leather style, which is offered in three tote models, while a bright pastel green is presented in the two sizes of the dome bag and the shoulder bag with flap.

The white versions have a timeless appeal, while the green ones are more overtly contemporary. Another distinctive incarnation new to the Gucci 1955 Horsebit line has a playful appearance: a little suitcase-shaped top-handle bag. It has been developed in two different variations, and is presented in a GG canvas with brown leather trim, and also in two colours of leather: black and white. The internal design of this piece references that of a real suitcase, with pockets allowing for the convenient organisation of everyday items. there is now also a zebra-print calf-hair version of the Gucci 1955 Horsebit with black leather trim in two of the best-selling styles: the small dome bag and the iconic shoulder bag. Furthermore, a range of both timeless and seasonal exotics enriches the offer: the small dome bag in the Gucci 1955 Horsebit range has been recoloured in a natural colour of python and a classic taupe crocodile, while the new little suitcase and the best-selling shoulder bag come in a natural colour of python, and the shoulder bag also comes in a bright pastel green.

The Dionysus

The Dionysus was the first handbag Alessandro Michele designed for Gucci as Creative Director of the House. It is distinguished by a striking double tiger-head closure, a unique detail that references the Greek god Dionysus, who, according to myth, is said to have transformed himself into a tiger to carry a young nymph across the river that then became known as the Tigris.

For pre-fall 2020-21 several different variations of this now iconic style have been developed. One special selection features four different combinations of leather inlays, all displaying the tiger-head buckle that characterises the Dionysus enamelled in blue. These bags are graphic and refined, with a distinctive look, and come in a variety of different shapes: mini bags, shoulder bags and top-handle bags. Two versions have striped inlays that recall House Web stripes – one in green, blue and red leather, and the other in blue, white and red leather. Another has a sophisticated geometric pattern in black and white, while a final geometric version comes in butter, brown and black. A further special design sees the (the small shoulder-flap bag) executed in black suede and leather with studs.
