Here's how to get summer body ready

Cheers to never feeling the dreaded fear again of slipping on swimwear for the first time after a long, extra chilly winter, and while there's truth in saying confidence comes from within, it never hurts to get a little help from our favourite products. Here's our guide to getting summer body ready as well as tips to help you feel your most confident self.

Get the balance right

Shorter days and chilly nights are the perfect pairings for rich, hearty dishes and indulgent desserts (let's face it, there's nothing better than curling up on the sofa with your favourite block of choccie whilst watching a great flick!). If it's time to clean up your diet for the sake of that summer bod, a great starting point is the 80/20 rule. It refers to eating healthy, nutritious foods 80% of the time, whilst 20% is saved for what we like to call 'food for the soul'. Home cooked meals tend to be more meal plan friendly and if you're short on time, meal prepping on the weekends can help reduce the chance of a midweek takeout when you can't be bothered cooking. Plus, eating more plant-based protein, fermented foods like coconut yoghurt, apple cider vinegar and kimchi, and good fats from salmon, nuts and avocados, can also contribute to healthier hair and skin so you'll truly be glowing from within.

Get moving

While we wouldn't pass up getting a little extra toned, exercise is just as beneficial for your mental health, giving you that extra inner confidence boost. No matter your fitness level, a good routine is about consistency. Increase the frequency and intensity of your workouts slowly. There's no point overdoing it from the get-go as you'll burn out quickly and will be less likely to stick to it long term. Lifting weights, even just small ones if you're afraid of bulking up, is key as resistance training helps build muscle, which in turn increases your metabolism to help sustain healthy weight loss. The bottom line is to keep moving. Make extra time to walk the dog, jump onto a workout video or catch up with a friend for a morning hike.

Change up your beauty routine

With hot, humid days ahead, it's time to swap out rich moisturisers for lighter ones, swap face oils for antioxidant-rich, hydrating serums, up the usage and strength of your SPF for both your face and body, and increasing the frequency of your chemical exfoliants at night to prevent congestion. If you have oily skin, you may not require a separate moisturiser during the day as a hydrating sunscreen may be all you need. Don't forget to replace any sunscreens you may have lying around from previous seasons if they're out of date and stock up on aloe vera gel for any sunburn mishaps.

For those prone to frizzy or dry locks, a moisturising hair mask and leave-in conditioner will keep the effects of humidity at bay whilst protecting from salt water.

Bronze up

We all love some extra colour when the sun starts shining. Cue your favourite sunless tanner and mitt. You also wouldn't want to forget a trusty exfoliant for an even application, especially around your hands, knees, ankles and feet where fake tan tends to stick. The easiest way to achieve natural looking colour on the face is to add a couple bronzing drops or tan into your moisturiser for subtle colour that you can build on as desired. Dust bronzer on the cheeks, lids, hair line and collar bone for that sun-kissed, goddess glow.

Update your makeup bag

Aside from bronzer, warmer weather also calls for lighter, non-comedogenic makeup products. Try a tinted moisturiser instead of liquid foundation, and tap on loose powder to set concealer under the eyes and t-zone to keep these areas matte. Finally, change up your daily lip and eye palette - we're expecting to see lots of pretty peachy pinks, browny nudes and plenty of bold bright shades on the eyes this sunny season.
