3 trending makeup looks to try this winter

Cue rich auburns, delicious shades of berry and pretty pastels, play with colour this winter with these easy makeup looks that celebrate our favourite shades of the season.

Back to basics

While skincare prep is key to start any makeup look, for winter, dial up the hydration with nourishing serums, rich moisturisers and primers to give you a long-lasting, smooth base all day long.

Winter berry

Sultry yet subtle, this look features smokey eyes and a flush of colour on the lips. Go for raspberry reds or earthy tangerines for daytime, and dial up the deep cherries and plums at night. Top it off with smudgy, brown eyeliner to pull the look together.

Get the look:

  1. A sheer, matte base works best here as freckles (if you have them naturally or wish to pop some on) pair particularly well with this look.
  2. Give your lids a wash of a beige tone to brighten your eyes, and in the crease layer on a darker shade of brown.
  3. Line your eyes with a soft, brown liner and using a cotton tip, smudge the colour to create a smokey effect. Curl your lashes and give them a sweep of dark brown mascara.
  4. Finally, line your lips, before filling them in with matching berry shade of lippie.
  5. To glam up this look at night, add a touch of gold to your lids or just the inner corners of your eyes.

Pastel punch

Don't save pastels just for summer, this playful look adds a fun pop particularly to neutral-toned winterwear. Choose a hero matte pastel colour (we've gone with lilac) based on how matching or constrasting you'd like your makeup look to be to your outfit.

Get the look:

  1. For a luminous base, add a dash of liquid highlighter to your foundation.
  2. Brush a darker shade of your chosen pastel (we've used mauve as a base) all over your lids, concentrating in the outer corners of the crease. For a bolder look, you could play with constrasting colours, like mauve and orange or pink and yellow.
  3. With your hero pastel, line your eyes before sweeping it on the inner third of your lids.
  4. Brush a couple of layers of a coloured mascara (we've gone with purple to match).
  5. Pair with subtle, nude cheeks and glossy lips to bring focus to your eyes.

Peach flush

Think fresh skin and just a hint of colour on the cheeks and lips - this will soon be your everyday go-to. From pinks to corals, cool tones work best. Even if you have a warm skintone, cool shades will give you a naturally, glowy 'slightly wind chill-bitten' flush.

Get the look:

  1. Start with an extra dewy base, either with ultra hydrating skincare or a glowy primer.
  2. Sweep a touch of peachy-toned colour on the eyelids and cheeks (hot tip: you can use your blush on your lids too for a monochromatic look).
  3. Give your lashes a quick swish of mascara.
  4. Finish with a slick of subtle pink or clear gloss, and a creamy highlighter on the highest points of your face where the light catches - your cheek bones, lids and the bridge of your nose.
