The best LEGO sets for big and little kids of all ages

For generations, LEGO has delighted fans with its classic interlocking blocks and innovative designs. As one of the most popular toys on the planet, the brand has evolved over the last few decades and become an even more sought-after toy for all ages, especially with complex builds for popular franchises like Star Wars and Harry Potter. LEGO has always been a must-have in toy boxes for younger children, but now provides fun for the whole family, with people of all ages finding enjoyment from building their own creations. Whether you’re looking for a gift, or a challenge for yourself, read on to discover the best LEGO sets for children and adults, by age group.

18 months +

The benefits of introducing LEGO blocks to little ones are massive, from developing their fine motor skills to allowing their imagination to thrive. Duplo is LEGO’s range for children aged 18 months to 4 years old. The larger blocks are designed for little hands and toddlers will be drawn to the colours and shapes. Remember to check the handy age recommendation on the box.

4-5 year olds

Continue to nurture creativity with exciting new challenges for growing builders. 4-5 year olds will love builds that are slightly more detailed than the large-brick Duplo options, but still manageable for little ones. Depending on their interests, they may enjoy themed-sets, like Spider-Man or the popular LEGO Friends range, or a classic brick set that allows them to build freely using their imagination.

6-8 year olds

For 6-8 year olds, big imaginations are still continuing to grow. Let them explore the world around them through play, with sets that are based on familiar scenes, like City School Day and Fire Station or LEGO Friends Vacation Beach House. They may also enjoy worlds where they can play with their favourite characters from Harry Potter or Minecraft.

9-12 year olds

Older kids will find great satisfaction in sets that require more patience and skill. Being more complex, these sets will take longer to complete but provide an even greater sense of accomplishment. With their interests expanding, some great options for this age are the Technic range and more detailed builds from popular franchises like Star Wars.

18+
