Clothing The Gaps is a Victorian Aboriginal led and controlled, and majority Aboriginal owned social enterprise, co-founded by Laura Thompson (Gunditjmara) and Sarah Sheridan (non-Indigenous).

Clothing The Gaps is a fresh and dynamic fashion label managed by health professionals that celebrates Aboriginal people and culture. Clothing The Gaps is a play on the words "Closing the Gap", which is an Australian Government health initiative to help close the life expectancy gap between Aboriginal people and non-Indigenous Australians.

We make our clothes with our mob in our heart and everyone in mind. We label our clothes ‘Ally Friendly’ and ‘Mob Only’ to make choosing a conversation starter easy.

We produce merch with a message and encourage people to wear their values on their tee. We influence and unite people through fashion and causes so that Aboriginal people and Communities can thrive.

At the heart of Clothing The Gaps lie the values of elevating, educating, advocating and motivating people for positive social change.

We put these values into action by creating platforms and spaces to:

• Elevate, represent and promote Aboriginal voices and excellence to further enable Aboriginal people to celebrate their identity and visibility in the world.
• Educate and start conversations with the wider Australian population about causes or issues affecting Aboriginal Australia. To promote reconciliation and welcome non-Indigenous people to learn about, celebrate and support Aboriginal Australia.
• Motivate people and activate Aboriginal Communities to make positive lifestyle choices and be healthier in their mind, body and spirit. To motivate people to take action and use their own voice for social change.
• Advocate and campaign for social change on issues impacting on Aboriginal people and their communities.

As a social enterprisewe are profit for purpose and are registered with Social Traders. We use business as a vehicle to self-determine our future through profit, efforts and resources supporting and helping to fund the impactful work of the Clothing The Gaps Foundation. We are proud that our social enterprise through our retail and distribution space is a hub of Indigenous employment. Eighty-one percent (81%) of our staff members are mob. We strive to be a preferred employer for Aboriginal and Torres Strait people actively supporting them to grow and pursue their life goals and ambitions. In 2020-2021 financial year we created over 9000 hours of employment for mob. We can't wait to see this number grow!

Clothing The Gaps is certified as a Victorian Aboriginal business with Kinaway Chamber of Commerce Victoria and certified as an Aboriginal business with Supply Nation. We also hold an Ethical Clothing Australia accreditation. See more about our locally made collection here. We became a certified B Corporation Australia in March 2022 with our first accreditation score of 123.9
