Trackies are no longer just trackies. Trackies have gone hi-tech. If you’re looking to invest in a new set of trackies – or exercise pants, if you want to use the correct term – there is a lot more to think about than just the colour. The type of men’s exercise pants you buy will depend on what you plan to do while wearing them. Now, if you plan to do little more than lounge on the couch, then you probably don’t need to look out for hi-tech extras. On the other hand, if you plan to do some actual exercise in your exercise pants, there is plenty to be on the look out for.
First up, fit. There are loose fit exercise pants, normal fit, and tight fit. For a super tight fit, there are tights, which also come in full length, three-quarter length and half-length styles. Another factor to think about in terms of fit is the pants’ waistband and cuffs. The waistband and cuffs can be elasticised, perhaps with a drawstring for extra security. Next, material. If you plan on training outside, you may want to consider waterproof or water repellent exercise pants. If you want to train in the cold, look for double layered pants with a warm, breathable inner layer for extra protection. For training on hotter days, choose exercise pants made from material that wicks away sweat and keeps you dry. Last, comfort. No one wants to think about their activewear while they’re being active. Make sure the pants are comfortable so you can focus on training.
