Cosy up: how to make your home snug for winter

Now that winter is well and truly with us, it’s a great time to mix up your décor and increase the cosy level of your home. This season, everywhere we look, the stores are bursting with wool and woven textures, making us want to curl up with a knitted throw and drink all the hot chocolate. Here are five ways you can use wool to make your abode that bit cosier.

Bring out your throw rugs

Chunky-knit throw rugs are everywhere right now and we firmly believe that every couch, chair and bed should be sporting at least one. They add so much texture and warmth to a room. Don’t be afraid to display them in different ways – drape them casually, drop them into a loose weave basket next to the couch or pop them on a low shelf folded neatly next to a stack of magazines.

Knit scatter cushions

A textured knit cushion is the perfect winter addition to your soft furnishings and will transform a cold chair or bench into a cosy winter haven. Go for colours like navy, dusty pink and grey.

Decorate with woven wall art and knitted baskets

Weaves and other textured artworks are popular right now in interior design. A textured woolly weave on the wall can do a lot to warm up a previously cool corner of your home. Likewise, pop a knit basket over your interior plant pots to give them a more snug vibe.

Invest in a woollen mattress underlay

The most important place to bring the cosy during winter is your bed and the best way to do that is with a woollen underlay or mattress topper. They will make your bed warmer (obviously), but they can also increase sleep quality and reduce pressure on your back. Surprisingly, they aren’t that difficult to clean either.

Lay down some rugs

So many companies are going back to natural–look weaves and fibres when it comes to rugs, making it easier than ever to get woollen floor rugs. From boho to country style, a chunky woven mat is a great winter update if you want your room to look cosy, plus it'll add extra insulation to your room too.
