Westfield switches to 100% renewable electricity in Queensland

We’ve announced a new deal with CleanCo, the Queensland government-owned renewables, low emissions, and hydro-power company, to source 100% renewable electricity for Westfield in Queensland.

This is a first for us in Australia and follows a similar arrangement for our Living Centres in New Zealand, which switched to 100% renewable electricity in January 2022.

From 2025, our centre environments – lights, lifts and air conditioning – will be run off 100% renewable electricity purchased from CleanCo.

It’s terrific news because every time customers shop or dine, they’ll be supporting renewable electricity generation in Queensland.

CleanCo will source renewable energy generated by the Western Downs Green Power Hub solar farm, the Kaban Green Power Hub wind farm and the Dulacca Wind Farm in Queensland.

As well as purchasing renewable electricity, we also generate our own on-site solar. In 2021 we generated 7.9 GWh from installations throughout Queensland, New South Wales, Victoria, South Australia and Western Australia. This year alone, our new onsite solar installations will generate an additional 6.2 GWh, increasing our total portfolio solar generation capacity by over 75%.

Our agreement with CleanCo is another important step towards our goal of reducing emissions by 50% by 2025 and achieving net zero emissions by 2030.
