Scentre Group’s 2024 Responsible Business Report
Scentre Group owns 42 Westfield destinations in Australia and New Zealand.
We’re pleased to share our 2024 Responsible Business Report.
The Report is a summary of our overall sustainability performance in 2024 and outlines our continued focus on being a responsible and sustainable business.
As we strive to deliver our Purpose of creating extraordinary places, connecting and enriching communities, we aim to reduce our impact on the environment and deliver career development and a place where talent thrives for our people.
Our Chief Executive Officer, Elliott Rusanow, explains,
“Community is at the heart of our company’s Purpose and continues to guide us as we pursue operational excellence and growth in a responsible and sustainable way.”
Our sustainability progress
Our aim is to reduce our environmental impact and leave a positive legacy for our communities. We’re doing this through a range of initiatives, including our progress to net zero and focus on waste diversion.
- Our progress to net zero
We have a target to achieve net zero scope 1 and scope 2 emissions across our wholly-owned Westfield destinations by 2030. Since 2014, we’ve decreased our emissions by 41% portfolio wide.
- Our focus on waste
We implemented our strategic waste management plan in 2024. Separating waste into recycling streams in our Westfield destinations is key to improving how much waste we divert from landfill. Last year we began installing simplified waste sorting signage to support our retailers [and customers] support these efforts.
Our community
We aspire to be essential to people and their communities. An important part of us doing that is supporting social progress, building local partnerships and uniting people around meaningful experiences in their local Westfield destination. Over the past five years, we have invested $32 million into our local communities. In 2024, that included $1.24 million in Westfield Local Hero grants and $7.3 million of foregone income for space in our destinations and digital screen campaigns for our community partners.
Our people
In 2024, we continued our focus on our people, launching our new diversity, equity and inclusion vision: Everyone Belongs. This vision reflects our belief that to be the place where talent thrives, everyone needs to feel heard, valued, supported and motivated.
We achieved an employee engagement score of 89% that means we are considered a best practice organisation. We are also on track to achieve our target to have 40% female, 40% male and 20% either gender at all levels of our business by 2025.
Scentre Group employs 2,860 people across more than 70 professions in Australia and New Zealand. If you’re interested in joining us, click here to explore our current roles.
