How to keep kids entertained at your next barbecue

The season of warm summer barbecues is upon us and we are ready for it. We're talking breakfast barbecues, lunch barbecues and, of course, the evening barbecues when the weather calls for dinner to be cooked and eaten outside. But how do you keep the kids entertained and enjoying the barbecue too? This guide is here to help.

Games and activities

To way to most children’s hearts is a good quality game or activity and a barbecue is no exception. Some equipment you might want to invest in includes:

  • Bubbles
  • Hula hoops
  • Sporting equipment (e.g. kids cricket set)
If you have a pool, try buying a whole range of pool toys at affordable prices. And if you don’t have a pool and the day is supposed to be hot, a small inflatable pool or water guns could work wonders.

Get creative with the food

When it comes to food, some kids aren't interested in anything but sugar, so get them involved with the food to spark their interest. An easy one for the older kids is fruit skewers – all you have to do is cut the fruit up and let them put their favourite fruits on the skewers.

You can also set up a sauce station where they can choose what they want on their food. This could include all different types of sauces and relishes they can add to their meal to make them feel a part of the process.

Of course, you can’t forget the sweet treats after the main meal! We are talking marshmallow skewers, ice blocks, lolly bags and any dessert family favourites.

Sunscreen and bug repellent

It may seem obvious that these two items are must-haves, but you don’t want anyone's fun to be spoiled by sunburn or insect bites. Add some to your shopping list, just to be safe!
