Street style: our favourite trends from VAMFF 2019

The summer holidays are over, but that doesn’t mean you can’t stick around and embrace a holiday state of mind. If you’re one for keeping the vacation vibes going, there’s likely one hot event on your calendar this season: The Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival!

Always a favourite amongst the influencers you love, it’s the perfect place to discover both cute and new ways to inject some energy and colour into grey weather. Your #ootd is about to get elevated!

This year, we’re giving you and a stylish bestie the chance to put your best high-heeled foot forward and win tickets to VAMFF. Whether you show up twinning it or not, we want to know how you’d make a style statement this year. Take a look back at our favourite street-style trends from VAMFF 2019 and it's your ticket on how to enter to WIN the ultimate VAMFF Staycation.

Melbourne Monochrome

Whether it’s black-on-black or a more daring all-red ensemble, pulling off the same hue from head-to-toe is the go-to trend for saying “I’ve got it together”. Honestly – take a scroll through Instagram and you’ll see a range of monochrome inspo to inspire your VAMFF look.

Not convinced? If you’re still wary of looking like a power ranger or a block of lego, play with prints and textures in the same colour family to add a bit of variety. Our go-to’s for this trend? Witchery for smart neutrals, patterns and textures, Country Road for creamy linen shirts mixed with smart cotton pants, and Decjuba for a fresh take on double denim.

Suits You

If bare legs or too-thick tights have you cancelling your plans, we’ve got you sorted with a bold and warmer alternative. In a sea of flouncy dresses and floral patterns, a suit is a rebellious choice that’s equal parts subdued and daring. From casual two-piece sets for brunching or hitting the bar, to sleek black or white ensembles, trust us when we say a blazer and matching pant is a powerful yet feminine option for slaying it at a number of occasions.

Step out of your zipped up dresses and into something sleeker. We love Sass & Bide, Zimmerman and David Jones.

Prairie Perfect

Far from old-fashioned and frumpy frocks, the new Prairie Perfect trend is dreamy, pretty and the perfect balance of casual and chic. Pairing with a cowboy boot is optional but strongly encouraged.

If floral and gingham feel a little too on the nose, we suggest flowy and ruffly monochrome numbers. We rate Forever New, Zimmerman and Sportsgirl for pretty prairie tops and balloon sleeve dresses for floating on into the front row.

The Glitterati

Casual? We don’t know her. VAMFF is a time of celebrating personal style, and sequinned ensembles are the best way to announce your arrival. We’re not saying you need to step out looking like a disco ball – but if you do, we support your glittery choices. It’s easy to pop on a sequinned tee from Myer or bedazzled jewellery from Mimco if subtle is more your cue, or make a grand entrance with something that shimmers from head to toe. We love David Jones for always stocking the best range of glitzy gowns.
