3 ways to wear animal print with Gavin Gage from Witchery

Get set for an ultra wild winter. Weather aside, Witchery’s winter collection masterminded by Head of Design and Creative, Gavin Gage, is peppered with bold leopard, ocelot and tiger print. The mood is glamourous and oozes a savage kind of confidence that we’re up for. While animal prints are considered a neutral by some aficionados, Gavin was kind enough to give Westfield customers the exclusive lowdown on how to integrate them into more print-shy winter wardrobes.

Roaring weekends: dress it with denim

While it’s natural to associate animal print with a scarlet pout and towering heels, don’t discount it on your dressed-down days (that may/ may not include a lacquered red lip). “(Animal) print works perfectly with denim to provide a more relaxed approach,” says Gavin.

Add throwback cool with the high-waisted Florence Jean and the Peasant Print Blouse. Or, style the Denim Jogger with the Ocelot Printed Ponte Tee.

Conference to cocktails: the neutral coat

One the reasons skin prints should be in every busy person’s style survival kit is that they coordinate equally well with day and night ensembles. “For me, the tiger print dress with the perfect neutral coat and black accessories is one of my favourite looks,” says Gavin. “Adding a heel and waisted belt for evening… and layering coats (during) the cooler months is perfect.”

As well as complementing animal prints, “a great neutral coat is an investment worth making,” says Gavin. “(It) will stand the test of time and work across many seasons to come.”

Try the Animal Print Dress with the classic Double Breasted Coat for a pairing that will take you pretty much everywhere during winter.

Max impact: go hell for leather

Unafraid? Firstly, we applaud you, secondly, animal prints are best friends with leather anything if you feel the need to amplify the drama. “Adding leather to looks is a way to urbanise the print,” says Gavin.

Try the Ocelot Coatigan with Witchery Leather Leggings or Leather Mini Skirt to keep cosy while maintaining street-cred.

If you’re vegan, or prefer non-leather clothing, Witchery’s Florence Jean are coated with a slight lustre that will generate an equally fierce result.
