Hot lips: punchy winter lip colours for your skin tone

Hot lips: punchy winter lip colours for your skin tone

We've all stood in front of a wall of different shades of lipstick, thinking that we didn’t even know that so many colours existed, let alone knowing which colour is right for us. A lot of us are guilty of buying heaps of lipsticks but then only wearing a few of them because we don't like our choices later. The reason you loved it in store (or on Emma Stone) but don’t think it suits you is because different skin tones affect the lipstick shades that work best for you.

Read below to find out what lipstick shades are destined to be your favourites! These aren’t rules to 100% abide by, but more of a guide to help you out with your next lipstick purchase.

The main thing to look out for when choosing your next shade is that it doesn’t wash your skin out, which is usually caused by lipsticks that are lighter than your skin.

Fair skin

With cool undertones, most of the time those with fair skin tend to show hints of blue, so it’s time to work with it. To help warm up your complexion, opt for reds and purples when it comes to your lippy choice. Bold, bright lipsticks contrast well with light skin. Try these colours:

  • Pinky nude
  • Dusty pink
  • Deep purple
  • Bright or cool red

Medium skin

Those with medium skin can either have warm or cool undertones, so the wide variety means you have some great lipstick options. To avoid looking washed out, try to stick to shades that aren’t lighter than your skin tone, like:

Dark skin

Deep, bold shades work well with darker tones, but so do contrasting bright shades such as bright pink and coral, so the options are mostly endless. If you are looking for a nude, opt for one with caramel tones to help your lips pop a little. Try these colours out:
