3 AW19 Trends for The Modern Man

By Westfield stylist Kate Kohler

This season inspires the modern man to play with textures, rich autumn hues and effortless layering. From corduroy (yes you read correctly) and washed denim to burgundy check blazers and tailored coats, his wardrobe must be functional yet stylish with minimal effort. Sounds tricky? Let me introduce you to Academy Brand, Industrie and Sk Menswear; three different brands that will excite your wardrobe and take you from lazy Sunday afternoon drinks to vineyard weddings that require a little suave.

Academy Brand
From seasonal checks to branded sweaters and washed denim, Academy Brand offers the essentials for effortless layering. The easiest way to play with prints is to layer these pieces with block colours, giving you the styled edge and making it look easy. Relax your full-length chino or denim by cuffing the hem; opt for a sport sock when pairing with sneakers so the ankle is still exposed. Add an oversized denim jacket and voila, you’re done!

Industrie
Are you excited by corduroy as much as me? This classic 70s trend has been reinvigorated and Industrie has the most delicious selection of coloured cord jackets I think I need for my wardrobe. But if you’re not ready to add this classic to your wardrobe opt for a sleek suede jacket like ‘The Mig’. This fitted style is perfect over basic tees and lightweight knits as we welcome cooler nights. Pair these pieces with skinny denim for maximum street style. The bright white sneaker trend will be next on your list and Platypus Shoes carry a range of Vans waiting for your selection.

SK Menswear
From rich burgundy checks to heavenly over coats, SK Menswear offers the modern man a tailored wardrobe complete with attention to detail. This season invites you to play with rich autumn hues like deep forest green, merlot burgundies and punchy tobacco so look for these when pairing with light grey, sand or ink colored chinos and you’ll create a beautiful contrast to the typical matching suit and pant. Keep this look contemporary and layer with knee-length overcoats for evening events or commuting to work, I promise you’ll thank me later.
