How-to throw an epic birthday party at home
Sad because you can’t have a big birthday celebration this year? We get it! But just because you’re at home, doesn’t mean the party has to be cancelled.
Here’s five ways to celebrate with your nearest and dearest or spoil a special someone on their birthday from afar.
1. First things first, food
Start by picking up your favourite takeaway from Grill'd or Sushi Jiro or check out Fonda, Miss Pickle or Schnitz on UberEats and Menulog for contactless delivery direct to your door. Nothing says celebration like cake, and Ferguson Plarre, or ready-made supermarket cake, Coles have you covered. If you’d prefer to get busy in the kitchen, this fancy chocolate and pistachio ice cream cake recipe is sure to impress. Otherwise, keep it simple by picking up some donuts from everys favourite, Royal Donuts and arrange your own donut cake stack for some serious wow-factor.
2. Get gifting
DIY pamper packs are perfect for giving that someone special all their favourite things in one cute bundle. You could fill this with a candle from Myer, Dusk, Kmart or Target, their favourite sweets from Lollyology, flowers from Coles and some beauty products like face masks and body scrubs from Priceline or Chemist Warehouse. For kids, a present that will keep them busy at home is ideal, so check out Kmart or Toyworld for hands-on activities and crafts. Do a drive-by doorstep drop with a cute card and you’re sure to put a smile on their face.
3. Get your party on
You’re in charge of bringing the party to life, now what? First, pick up some decorations from Smart Dollar or Base Warehouse to deck out your space. Think balloons, bunting, banners, streamers and anything that is colourful and fun. Add a special surprise with a piñata from Kmart, filled it with their favourite treats from Lollyology or Coles. If you’re feeling extra creative, create a treasure hunt around the house that leads to a perfect pile of presents.
4. Go virtual
Just because you can’t all be together in person to celebrate doesn’t mean you can’t share the special day with family and friends. Take the party virtual via video! Usually a smartphone is all you need, but if you prefer to use your laptop and need a webcam, pick one up from JB Hi-Fi, Target or John Alan Betta Home Living. Turn up your favourite tunes on a portable speaker from JB Hi-Fi, Target or John Alan Betta Home Living and bring your best moves for a remote dance party. If it’s something low-key you’re after, nothing beats singing happy birthday on video and watching the candles being blown out together.
