Your 2023 Westfield Knox Local Hero is:
Lillie Giang
Feed One Feed All Inc.
Dynamic. Selfless. Compassionate.
Lillie Giang has created an ecosystem of volunteers and organisations to deliver more than 20,000 meals a year to people who can’t cook for themselves.
Lillie is the President of Feed One Feed All, a volunteer-run charity that rescues nutritious food and prepares packed meals. It also provides onsite cooking services to frontline workers and those affected by disasters.
Lillie's magic is her ability to inspire and organise people. She has recruited more than 40 regular volunteers who cook up to 650 meals a week. They are supported by partners that provide ingredients and make home deliveries across Knox and outer east communities.
Recipients include cancer patients and those in palliative care who have no one to cook for them. There are also recent widows who do not know how to cook, families affected by domestic violence, mental illness, housing insecurity and those struggling financially.
The charity also responds to calls from emergency services. One of Lillie’s most memorable achievements was cooking 200 meals a day after the storms in Kalorama.
Lillie feels honoured to be nominated as a Westfield Local Hero. “I have seen firsthand how providing warm meals and a supportive environment can make a huge difference in people's lives,” she says.
Feed One Feed All will use its funds to cover operating expenses and to buy additional ingredients for meals and equipment
We'd like to thank and acknowledge our finalists who will receive a $5K grant for the organisation they represent...
