Winter made easy with UNIQLO
3 Knits, 3 Ways – Tash Sefton shows us how to style for the new season.
Investing in quality knitwear as the new season is upon us.
UNIQLO’s ever-expanding cashmere, lambswool and extra fine merino wool collections will have you spoilt for choice. Classic styles in an array or colourways, from the latest colour trends to the essentials. These knits will create the core of your dressing and will be what you use for layering. Layering not only keeps you warm, but these layers create personality in your outfits.
I would recommend 3 necklines when buying knitwear. The turtle neck (this is very important this season), the classic crew neck (my favourite) and the v neck (the easiest option). Invest in black, white/cream, neutrals (think camel or tobacco) and then add in a pop of colour. And the thing I love about the UNIQLO knit range, is the choice is endless! You just need to select your favourite yarn and knit weight and discover all the shapes on offer.
The Merino Turtle NeckPictured: Extra Fine Merino Ribbed Turtle Neck Sweater.
This ribbed style is definitely the ‘contemporary’ go-to style for the season. With 18 colours on offer, you can easily achieve the colour-blocking look you will see on and off the runway. It is about wearing head-to-toe of the same colour, back with tailored pants or with all the delicious new season textures of cord and tweeds. Add a few layers of gold necklaces and you are ready.Pictured: Extra Fine Merino Ribbed Turtle Neck Sweater, EZY Ankle Length Pants.
As it starts to get colder, knitwear becomes my new basic, but sometimes they can be too chunky to wear with other items in your wardrobe, especially to the office. This merino wool style is fine enough to wear with my suits for work, tucked into tailored pants or skirts. Although it is lightweight, it still keeps you warm, and is the perfect weight you can wear under blazers.Pictured: Extra Fine Merino Ribbed Turtle Neck Sweater, Wool Blended Jacket, EZY Ankle Length Pants.
Dressing casually when it is cold is easy, mainly because you can layer up! Wear your fine ribbed turtleneck knit as the under layer of your outfits, and style shirts as normal back with denim jeans. Add the must have jacket of the season… ‘the puffer’ and you are set.Pictured: Extra Fine Merino Ribbed Turtle Neck Sweater, Extra Fine Cotton Striped Shirt, Ultra Light Down Volume Jacket, Ultra Stretch Jeans.
The Cashmere V NeckPictured: Cashmere V Neck Sweater.
A cashmere sweater is something I have always wanted to wear, but never thought I could afford. However this cashmere at $129.90 is not only beautiful quality, but allows me to buy more than one colour! This v-neck style is a little more relaxed, so really comfortable to wear. For work, I wear with a classic shirt underneath, back with tailored trousers.Pictured: Cashmere V Neck Sweater, BLOCKTECH Soutien Collar Coat, Extra Fine Cotton Shirt, EZY Ankle Length Pants.
With 17 colours available in this style, I have embraced the new season colour pallet and styling my cashmere knitwear head-to-toe of the same colour, or mixing shades of complimenting colours such as pink with tobacco. This means you can really show some personality when dressing casually.Pictured: Cashmere V Neck Sweater, Wool Ribbed Knitted Coat, Corduroy Wide Cropped Pants.
Wearing denim is so easy day or night – but by adding some colour, like this pink cashmere knit really adds something to your denim staples. You can play around with how you style your denim jacket, buy buttoning it off the shoulder or tying it around your waist.Pictured: Cashmere V Neck Sweater, Denim Jacket, Ultra Stretch Jeans.
The Lambswool Crew NeckPictured: Premium Lambswool Crew Neck Sweater.
A crew neck knit would have to be the easiest style to integrate into your wardrobe. And I love the simplicity of a style like this, as it can be worn in so many ways. As it gets cold, this style will be the ‘basic’ of your outfits and it’s perfect to wear for work. Worn colour blocked with a pleated skirt or tailored pant, it looks very chic and work wear appropriate.Pictured: Premium Lambswool Crew Neck Sweater, BLOCKTECH Soutien Collar Coat, Crape Pleated High Waisted Skirt.
Suiting doesn’t always need to be for the office and don’t underestimate how valuable a great suit can be in your wardrobe. I love to dress up a black suit for nighttime – dinner or evening events. Layer a white shirt and crew neck knit, add a fabulous pair of earrings, a heel and you are ready. It is chic and stylish with very simple elements.Pictured: Premium Lambswool Crew Neck Sweater, Wool Blended Jacket, Extra Fine Cotton Shirt, EZY Ankle Pants.
Taking elements from your workwear clothes and styling them for the weekend is as easy as your changing your shoe. Black pants with sneakers looks amazing, and if you use your crew neck knits also for layering over striped shirting your outfit is done. Complete the look with a biker style jacket.Pictured: Premium Lambswool Crew Neck Sweater, Riders Jacket, Extra Fine Cotton Striped Shirt, EZY Ankle Pants.
