All that glitters - The hottest trends to steal from VAMFF 2020

Diverse models, sartorial magic, and three days of catwalks. This year’s Virgin Australia Melbourne Fashion Festival (VAMFF), despite being cut short, left plenty of inspiration for our Autumn / Winter wardrobe. The theme this year? Overt drama. From bold metallics to over-the-top sleeves, we’re all over the unapologetic excess that strutted down the runway. And because fashion should always be fun, Celeste Barber’s appearance at the Harper’s BAZAAR runway proved a comical treat amongst what is usually a sea of stern faces.

One of our favourite trends from this year’s VAMFF, available to shop at your nearest Westfield, is about all that glitters.

Who said disco was dead? This season, we’re pushing for sequins and metallics-mania as the antidote to the dropping temperatures. For those who want to shine – quite literally – we recommend reflective clothing for lighting up the room, not to mention, the mood. And while we know sequins and metallics are generally saved for the party season, we believe they are a year-round look, when approached like donuts – everyone loves them, but enjoy them sparingly. In other words, it’s all about how you mix your sequins and metallics so that one high shine piece looks perfect.

Rebecca Gilbert and Ginger & Smart have your next party frock sorted with off-the shoulder gowns that are elegant, modern and exceptionally not-cheesy. If decadent glamour is on your agenda, Carla Zampatti knows sparkles and shiny things never go out of style. We’re swooning over two-piece suits, goddess-like gowns and elaborate shirts to illuminate any social event.

The key to not looking like a bad 80s cliche is to keep the rest of your outfit simple. Understated accessories and black leather heels are your go-to’s here.
