Tanna Tribe’s tips for getting back to school ready

With another new school year around the corner, we spoke to Candice from Tanna Tribe about her top tips for getting back to school ready and stocking up on supplies. As a mum of four, she is no stranger to the excitement and stress of the back to school routine and says being organised is key.

Before your kids start or go back to school, there are a bunch of supplies you need to make sure are all sorted. Do you have any tips for parents sending their kids to school for the first time?

This year we have our older boys both in high school and Mahiya starting prep, so I’ve got three in school and I have had to be super organised. I’ve always been one to shop around to keep costs down, especially when it comes to shoes, school bags, pencil cases and lunchboxes. There is nothing worse than needing to replace these items mid-year, so my advice is – try to make sure you get good quality items that will last at least a couple of years.

Having the option of online shopping and home delivery is how you want to be shopping too. The kids even helped me with the online order and chose their own Kånken bags for school. There are so many colours to choose from.

Are there any essentials for back to school prep you can't live without?

We live in sunny Queensland and our summers get extremely hot, so it’s a must to have insulated lunchboxes to keep food cold. Mahiya chose a PACKIT lunchbox that has plenty of room and a built-in freeze pack. I highly recommend these lunchboxes, especially for primary school age as there are so many cool colours and designs the kids will love.

The new school year is always so exciting for the kids: new school shoes, new books, fun book wraps and name labels, and this year Mahiya has a little poppet key chain for her bag, which she is so excited about.

Do you have any tips to reduce the morning stress when your kids go off to school?

I have always been organised the night before their first day back at school. I pack their bags and have their book list and essentials ready in a separate bag. Lunches are prepped, so that before school, we can get up and have a relatively stress-free morning. The kids can just wake up, have breakfast, get ready and allow time to calm their nerves. It’s always such a special day for them, no matter what year they are starting.
