Having a baby is one of the biggest changes that will ever happen during your life. So, it stands to reason that this is a time of great emotion, let alone the psychological and physiological changes it has on you!

To put it blankly, having a baby really had a huge impact on my self esteem and my confidence. I really did struggle with the changes that happed to my body and this person I once knew, now seemed like a stranger looking back at me in the mirror.

There is also so much plastered out there on social media and in magazines about “bouncing back” after baby and getting your body back to what it was. But the reality is that you’ve grown, carried and birthed an entire human, and that’s epic! But of course, it’s going to have lasting effects on your body and it truly is like getting to know a new person.

Had I have known what I know now, I would have been a lot kinder to myself during this time and embraced the changes that happened, been in awe of the life I had created and what my body had allowed me to create.

That’s why I wanted to share with you today my top tips for new mums and finding your sense of style and confidence again when it comes to fashion after baby!

Be kind to yourself

Like I said, you’ve just grown a human! You go mama! Don’t be putting pressure on yourself to lose weight. Enjoy this time with your new little one and wear it all with pride. If that means buying some new clothes that are supporting, you through this time then so be it – you deserve it!

Comfort over anything else

Let’s be honest, being a mum really makes dressing for your lifestyle the number on priority. You want to be comfy when your sitting there hours on end feeding or chasing toddlers around! Not to mention nothing stays clean and vomit stains on the shoulder are now on trend!

Treat yourself to a new pair of sneakers, some nice activewear or comfy jeans 😊

Re-define your style

Do not be afraid to completely shake up what you thought you knew and liked and go outside your comfort zone. I will be the first to admit my style has changed completely and what I wore 10 years ago I wouldn’t dream of today. Same goes for styles and trends I thought I’d never touch.

Wide leg pant? Oh, hell no!!
Oh, wait now I own 5 pairs of the same pant!

Treat Yo’ Self

One of the hardest things I found when I was a new mum was spending money on maternity clothes and bras. It felt like SUCH a waste of money for something I knew would come to an expiry. For months I cursed my ugly old nursing bra till one day I snapped. I walked into Bra’s N Things and bought myself some nice and supporting girly bras and it honestly changed my life, best money I ever spent!

Do Not Compare

This is the biggest one for me! Looking at that fit-mum on IG who looked even thinner than she did pre baby, while I looked like they’d forgotten to remove a child :s Comparison is the thief of joy they say and it is SO true. Don’t compare yourself or your journey and body to someone else.

A huge hit home for me as the mother of daughters is also the perception I have about myself and how this will impact them through to their adult lives! You owe it to not just yourself but them to be confident in your own skin!
