Westfield invite you to attend their annual Truffle Festival Market Days on Saturday 24th June at Westfield Belconnen and Saturday 22 July at Westfield Woden. Before joining in the fun of cooking demonstrations, wine tastings, market stalls and more, read on to find out what to look for in truffles and how to cook them.
Truffles enhance and intensify the flavours of food – a steak with truffle sauce becomes meatier, eggs are transformed into a gourmet meal and every aspect of the dish becomes more complex and satisfying.
Due to the strong smell of truffles, some say that if you hold your nose while eating them, you will taste nothing. Taste on the tongue is the sweet, sour, bitter, salty and “umami” (savoury).
The aroma of T. melanosporum is musty and sweet; a very intense mushroom smell overlaid with other notes.
