Here’s what to keep in mind:
After your wardrobe staples are sorted, consider buying a couple of these pieces to breathe fresh life into your closet and make your basics more on-trend. Crop tops, slides, printed pants and maxi dresses are four hot trends right now that will be sticking around longer than others.

Get more out of your wardrobe with transeasonal pieces that never date, or trend items from winter that are still going strong this season – summer leather, pleated midi skirts and white jeans, to name a few.

Just because summer is here, it doesn’t mean you have to completely get rid of your favourite winter pieces. A pastel-coloured coat, leather pants and a chunky knit jumper or dress will still be popular come winter 2015, so store them in space bags and thank yourself later!

Top tips for spring cleaning your wardrobe:
Set aside a whole afternoon when you won’t be disturbed. Put on some music and be prepared to try on everything in your wardrobe, one by one. Do not, I repeat, do not start this mammoth task until you are totally in the mood and feeling good about yourself.
Go in with a plan of attack. Create sections of clothes you want to keep, sell, store, repair/tailor or give to charity. Then reassess the “keep” section again with your new ruthless attitude. We guarantee you’ll realise there’s even more you can part with!
For those pieces you can’t decide on, ask yourself key questions like “How many times have I worn this in the past 12 months?”, “Do I have at least three items I can work it back with?” and “Would I be willing to swap this for something new?”.
Make a list of the pieces missing from your wardrobe, whether that be a few timeless staples (white shirt, jeans, little black dress) or trend items you’re treating yourself to (metallic tank, matching twin-set, sport luxe trainers).
Arm yourself with all the tools you need to create a tidy wardrobe, like wooden hangers, draw dividers and clear shoe boxes.
