Stevie grew up between Sydney and the US but after a five-year tenure as editor of Russh magazine, she moved to Manhattan. Now the fashion director at Pop magazine, she also freelances for publications such as Teen Vogue, Japanese Vogue and W, Document Journal magazine and she also has a book and film project on-the-go. Another personal project is her website, Shop Ghost, a zine-like online mag featuring photography, collages and profiles of industry insiders including Imogene Barron, Yasmin Sewell and Chelsea Leyland.
“I think New Yorkers adore the Australian work ethic,” she says. “We are happy to get on with it and it fares well in a city that is about hard work. The city breeds overachievers and I’m in it to tell stories and create things.”
Dance admits she is more into style than fashion. “I like clothes to appear lived in,” she says. “My idealogy is that clothing is something you put on to express yourself – it always comes back to the subject and using the clothes around you as tools to express what’s happening in that moment.
